Rooftop photovoltaic power plant
Design and installation of a rooftop PV system for an industrial building, including project documentation and connection to the distribution grid.
Solar power plantsOverview
A grid-connected photovoltaic system across the roof of a large industrial building, sized to cover a meaningful share of the site's daytime electricity demand. We carried the project from initial feasibility through documentation, installation and energisation.
The brief
The roof had to carry a full array without compromising its waterproofing or structure, and the connection to the distribution grid required the network operator's approval before the plant could be switched on.
What we did
How we did it
Survey & feasibility
We assessed the roof's structure, orientation and shading, then modelled the expected yield to size the array realistically.
Documentation & approvals
We prepared the project documentation and handled the grid-connection application with the distribution operator.
Installation
Mounting structures, panels, inverters and protection were installed with the existing roof membrane kept intact throughout.
Commissioning
The system was tested, connected to the grid and handed over with monitoring so output can be tracked over time.
Outcome
The building now generates a substantial share of its own electricity during daylight hours, with remote monitoring in place to confirm performance season to season.
